English bulldogs, American Bulldogs, French bulldogs or just Bulldogs?

I've always referred to the three bulldog breeds with either english, american or french in front of it purely because then i know which dog i'm referring to. I am aware the KC doesn't use the term ''english'' they just refer to them as bulldogs. How come American and french bulldogs is their legit name but English is not? Do you think it's wrong i still use the term ''english'' when im referring to that breed? or is it just because i'm a gullible english woman :) ?
