I have a Scion XA, and am upside down on it! I am looking to get another car, but am looking for some advise..

I have a Scion XA, the value of it has depriciated so much! I am wanting to buy another car but am not sure what would be the best to go with.... If you had to compare.... Hondas, Toyotas, Volks wagon, hynduais, nissan, which would be the best to go with? Should I buy new or used? All advise is needed, I want to do it smart this time! Thank you!
