What is your take on funerals?

Honestly, I've never seen the point of funerals. They seem rather wasteful in how expensive they are and futile since nothing will bring the deceased back. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for loved ones being able to grieve and work through their loss. But does that really require an expensive, elaborate and often depressing ceremony? I'd prefer my family not have a funeral for me.
