Why do most Americans think that countries outside of the U.S comprise of one single race of people?

Why do most people, not from America, think that most Americans are ignorant ? I was educated in the South Carolina public school system, which isn`t saying very much, but I know enough to realise that just like this country is a melting pot, so are many other countries. I`m seeing a pervasive anti- American sentiment.
